Brown University's Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC) expects to have an opening for a two-year postdoctoral research associate position beginning January 1, 2009. This individual will be appointed to a research position at the PSTC and also have limited teaching responsibilities through the Department of Sociology. The PSTC is an interdisciplinary research and training unit of Brown University that provides an environment for intellectual exchange, infrastructure support services, and project development support for a very productive, interdisciplinary group of population-related faculty, postdoctoral fellows and researchers, and graduate students. The PSTC is distinguished by its commitment to collaboration across disciplinary and institutional boundaries as well as its strong portfolio of research in developing country settings, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.The successful applicant for this position will be a key member of the ining Center's Ethiopia research team, working primarily at Brown, with the opportunity for occasional work in the field site, on an ongoing project that conducts policy-relevant scientific research on adolescent life, physical and reproductive health in Ethiopia. The associate will be integrally involved in state-of-the-art analysis and scholarly writing related to findings from the Ethiopia research. Additionally, this individual will have limited teaching of one graduate-level course on a demographic topic in the Sociology Department each year. The position also includes substantial time for the postdoctoral research associate?s own research including preparing papers for publication and submitting applications for independent research funding.
