Expert Panel on Contextual Relationships

Application Deadline: 11/30/2007
Expert Panel on the Contextual Relationship between Individual Level Violence and Macro Level Economic Factors

The purpose of the project is to identify macro-level economic risk and protective factors (e.g., community-level economic inequality, poverty, unemployment?) for youth violence and explore ideas for how best to bridge the gap between etiologic research and effective community-level interventions. It will culminate in a series of peer reviewed articles (or book sections) published in a journal special issue (or book).

The specific aims are to convene an expert panel to:

  1. Review etiologic macro-level economic risk literature and identify limitations.
  2. Review macro-level economic intervention literature.
  3. Explore ideas for how best to bridge the gap between etiologic research and intervention.
  4. Discuss pathways linking macroeconomic conditions and youth violence.
  5. Develop future directions for research.
